  • Playground Supervision: Closely monitor students on the playground to ensure physical safety, navigate appropriate social interactions, and encourage positive, structured play.

  • Conflict Resolution: Actively assist students with basic peer conflict resolution, promoting a caring and respectful recess environment.

  • Team Collaboration: Partner effectively with a team of fellow monitors and school staff to manage group behaviors and enforce playground rules.

Professional Reliability

  • Consistent Attendance: Maintain strict punctuality and daily attendance between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to satisfy state-mandated student-to-staff safety supervision ratios.

  • Flexibility: Perform other duties related to school-wide midday student supervision as assigned by building administration. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

Job Requirements

  • Experience: Experience working with school-aged children in a professional, volunteer, or caregiving capacity is preferred.

  • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to work effectively as part of a supervisory team.

  • Compliance: Successful completion of a Massachusetts CORI and fingerprint-based national criminal background check.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Stamina & Mobility: This position requires the ability to stand for the entire two-hour shift, walk continuously across the cafeteria and outdoor terrain, and reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift to 25 pounds.

  • Communication & Senses: Talking or hearing in person to effectively manage large groups of children.

  • Vision: Specific vision abilities include close/distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to maintain visual tracking of moving students across a broad playground area.

  • Environment: Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, light precipitation) and potential environmental hazards typical of a public school building and playground.
