Description

We are looking for a special education teacher to serve in the Harbor program at Swampscott High School. Harbor is an inclusion-based special education support program for students with emotional disabilities that provides a supportive learning community with direct case management to facilitate student progress. Students work with an integrated school psychologist/special educator team to develop emotional regulation and academic skills. Close home-school communication and proactive planning around obstacles are integral parts of the program. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holds current and valid MA license as a high school special educator; SEI Endorsement is required
  • Endorsement in Students with Moderate Disabilities preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching students struggling with complex social and emotional challenges
  • Knowledge and experience with alternative learning methods, thorough knowledge of functional behavioral assessment, and experience with designing behavior intervention/treatment plans are preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with executive function coaching and scaffolding preferred
  • Familiarity with de-escalation strategies; CPI certification or TCIS training preferred
  • Technological expertise preferred: experience working with Google Classroom / G-Suite Apps / Online Credit Recovery Programs 
  • Demonstrated interest in staff-development leadership surrounding district goals
  • Such additional qualifications as Swampscott High School may find appropriate and acceptable

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to create and maintain a welcoming, positive, and structured classroom climate with high expectations for each student.
  • Works intensively with the Clinical Coordinator to collaboratively support the holistic mental health needs of the student and help implement clinical engagement best practices that yield the most positive outcomes in helping the student to meet their goals.
  • Develops and implements the academic component of the overall case management plan for each student in Harbor.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, including modifying existing curriculum and developing modular units allowing Harbor students to achieve credit.
  • Develops and maintains a work tracking and academic data management system for students in Harbor.
  • Proactively communicates with teacher colleagues and school administrators regarding the academic program, requirements, progress, and status of each student in Harbor.
