Job Title:  LITERACY PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION SPECIALIST (1.0 FTE)  

 

Job Goal: Provide support for teaching staff and building administrators to implement a new literacy curriculum in grades K-4 or K-5.

Responsibilities:

  1. Build strong relationships with teachers and building administrators.

  2. Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support planning and classroom instruction with a new literacy program.

  3. Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated/ small group lessons, and the use of the new curriculum to meet the needs of their students.

  4. Model and co-teach lessons with teachers to support implementation.

  5. Provide individualized advice and suggestions to support best practices in literacy instruction and program implementation.

  6. Support teachers and administrators in using data to assess implementation and student learning.

  7. Provide support to collaborative grade-level teams, and co-lead collaborative meetings with grade-level curriculum specialists.

  8. Plan and lead meetings of the Implementation Committee.

  9. Organize vendor-provided professional development for teachers and administrators.

  10. As time allows, may also teach small-group literacy interventions.

  11. Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  1. Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an early education teacher, elementary teacher, or reading specialist.

  2. At least 3 years experience as a classroom teacher using a commercial literacy program.

  3. Strong current knowledge of the science of reading research and implementation of science of reading principles in practice.

  4. Familiarity with adult learning theory and proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.

  5. Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.

  6. Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.

  7. Facility with technology including the use of spreadsheets, and online learning platforms (i.e. digitally housed curriculum for teachers and students)

Additional  Desired Qualifications

  1. Prior experience working in a coaching or instructional leadership role.
