LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE NEEDED TO COVER A LEAVE OF ABSENCE/ END OF NOVEMBER 2024 THROUGH MID MARCH 2025

 

 

Swampscott Middle School is looking for a dynamic educator for our 5th-8th grade Robotics and Design classes, which are part of our specialist “wheel.”  Our Robotics and Design room includes a variety of LEGO components, mBots, and a classroom set of PC laptops. 

 

We are looking for someone who will create a classroom environment that is engaging and encourages increased awareness, practice, and interest in technology, design, and robotics.   An effective teacher will leverage thoughtful approaches to teaching (e.g. Universal Design for Learning), and project-based learning experiences, and will guide students toward mastery of curriculum standards. 

 

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must have the following:

  1. License or eligibility for Licensure in Technology/Engineering, Instructional Technology, 5-8 Math, or 5-8 General Science. 
  2. Working knowledge of GSuite for Education

 

Candidates should have experience in at least three of the following:

  1. Teaching courses in programming, ideally LEGO, Scratch, or mBlock.
  2. Using computer applications to support math and/or science curriculum.
    (Students are 1:1 on Chromebooks in the building)
  3. Teaching design programs, ideally SketchUp and Tinkercad. 
  4. Collaborating with other educators to create multi-disciplinary, technology-enhanced projects. 
  5. Basic PC troubleshooting
  6. Using the Understanding by Design template to create high-quality units



Note: Robotics and Design are currently one of 6 specialist courses at SMS that also includes PE/Wellness, Music, Art, Computers, Tech Ed.
