Daily Substitutes
Swampscott Public Schools is currently recruiting for daily substitutes. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking for a flexible work schedule. Work with our substitute coordinator to build a schedule week by week that works for you! Daily substituting is on an as-needed basis. Are you only available one day per week? That’s not a problem at all. You can work as few or as many days as you are available. We have substitute opportunities at all grade levels, from preschool through high school. Maybe you prefer to work with older students or just the younger ones, our coordinator will work with you to give you assignments that you are comfortable with.
This is a great opportunity for local college students who might have a day where they don’t have classes, retirees who still want to keep busy while having the flexibility to work when they choose to, or for parents who are looking to work while their children are in school. Substituting is also a phenomenal opportunity for college students studying education to gain experience in the field while working alongside some wonderful teachers who they can learn from or for retired educators who still want to teach.
As a daily substitute, you will be working on a per diem, as-needed basis. Subbing is approximately 6.5 hours per day. The school start and end times vary by school. The rate is $90 per day if subbing for a support staff (ESP or tutor) or $110 per day if subbing for a teacher. As soon as our sub coordinator knows that a staff member will be out, she secures a sub as soon as possible and typically reaches out to the subs via text message about subbing opportunities. She reaches out to subs individually, not as a group text. However, if texting does not work for you, our sub-coordinator will call you to notify you of substituting opportunities. Staff can call out anytime, so our coordinator may be reaching out to you well in advance if it is a scheduled absence or the night before or the morning of, for last-minute staff absences.
